Nell Newman loves chocolate and can't go too long without dreaming up a new use for it. This time it's Newman-O's, a delicious addition to Newman's Own Organics' cookie line. "Dad's name has been in lights - and now it's on our cookies, too. " states Nell. The cream filled chocolate delight is easily recognized by the distinctive package featuring "Pa" and Nell Newman in American Gothic dress and its accompanying courtly sentiments.
As in our other cookies, we are using organic palm fruit oil. It shouldn't, though, be confused with palm kernel oil. Organic palm fruit oil:
Is not hydrogenated
Contains no trans-fatty acids
Is lower in saturated fat than butter and has no cholesterol
Is widely used in Europe as an alternative to partially hydrogenated oils
Is extracted from the palm's fruit not the palms kernel
Can be grown organically in tropical regions
Of the three tropical oils, Palm Fruit Oil is 50% saturated, while Palm Kernel Oil is 86% and Coconut Oil is 92%.
We like too, that palm fruit oil comes from a part of Colombia where its production helps protect the area.
Like our other products, Newman-O's are certified organic by Oregon Tilth.
Note* We source our organic chocolate from producers in Central and South America. Issues surrounding forced labor are primarily centered on cocoa farms in West Africa, principally on the Ivory Coast. Our producers take measures to certify that all of the cocoa they purchase is produced without the use of forced labor.
Our group of cooperatives are inspected to verify compliance with organic standards. They require written verification from the inspector that each farm is "slavery-free".
