Xanthan Gum

Xanthan Gum (Xanthomonas campestris) is a polysaccharide composed of sugars glucose, mannose, and glucuronic acid. Xanthan Gum is a bulk-forming laxative. In the body it forms an emollient gel that stimulates peristalsis and passage of intestinal contents. Xanthan Gum slows gastric emptying and intestinal absorption of glucose. Xanthan Gum may also be beneficial to the teeth as it reduces the demineralization of tooth enamel. It acts as lubricant and wetting agent. Xanthan Gum is used as an emulsifer and stabilizer.
