Jujube (Ziziphus jujuba) is a member of the Rhamnaceae family. It grows in southern Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and the Far East. The applicable part of the jujube is the fruit; it is often classed with raisins, dates, and figs. The fruit can be eaten fresh or dried. Jujube contains a methanolic extract including oleanolic acid and ursolic acid. Jujube is used as a nutrient and tonic. It helps improve muscle strength, protects the liver and acts as a sedative. Jujube has also been used for lack of appetite, fatigue, inflammation, wounds, ulcers, fever, asthma, and hypertension. The most common use of jujube now is for anxiety and stress.
